When older clients are sent to acute hospital settings they are exposed to a range of new potential hazards, many of which can see an older person's condition decline rapidly. In this lecture, nurse practitioner Andriette Du Plessis explores the importance of keeping older adults at home for longer, and ways to reduce the incidence of hospital admissions in aged care populations, wherever possible.

She has worked in a wide variety of healthcare environments, having worked nationally and internationally in both urban and rural environments including working in primary healthcare on a mining site. Andriette’s experience covers a great many bases, including wound management, pharmacology and management within healthcare providers.
