Hospital and Health Care

Evidence ready, at a day's notice.

For public health services, private hospitals and day hospitals held to the NSQHS Standards. Ausmed keeps each clinician's training, competency sign-offs and policy acknowledgements on one record. You see who on tonight's roster is signed off for what, with the evidence ready for an assessor or a coroner.

Clinical risk starts with who is on tonight's roster.

Hospitals have controls for equipment and process. The people on shift need the same: a record of what each one has been trained and assessed to do, and a way to show it.

That record changes whenever someone starts, leaves, moves unit or picks up an extra shift.

What an assessor asks to see

Close the gaps between the roster and the record.

Gaps open when no one can say what a clinician on shift is trained and assessed to do. Ausmed puts each person's training and competency sign-offs on one record, and the answer is there before the shift starts.

Nobody can produce the report quickly

The assessor wants one unit's training and competency by person, with dates, and it sits in three places. Ausmed reports both from the same staff record, filtered to the unit.

Compliance Reporting

Programs run on spreadsheets

Graduate and transition programs run on printed forms and end-of-shift notes. The educator can't see who is ready for more of the roster. Ausmed assigns each stage as a training plan, and assessors sign off on the unit in the assessor app.

Learning Management

Educators chase overdue training by hand

An educator emails each overdue clinician and their manager one at a time, and the hours come out of teaching. Ausmed sends the reminders and escalates overdue training to the manager.

Automation and Efficiency

Nobody has checked the shift cover

A casual or agency nurse picks up a weekend shift on a thin roster. Nobody has tracked which skills they are signed off for. In Ausmed they get their own onboarding plan, and their competency results sit on the dashboard with everyone else's.

Quality & Safety

Sign-offs stay on paper

Assessors sign competency forms on paper and file them on the unit, and a Not Yet Competent result sits in a folder. Ausmed Competency™ puts it on the dashboard, with an action log for the follow-up.

Scopes widen for Hospital in the Home

As care moves into patients' homes, clinicians and assistants take on a wider scope. Set the expanded scope up as its own job role in Ausmed, and the training, policies and sign-offs it needs go to whoever moves into it.

Know who on the roster is signed off for what, before the shift.

Experienced nurses leave and take years of judgement with them. Graduates are stretched across more of the roster, sooner. A completion report only records that someone finished a module.

In Ausmed Competency™, an assessor you approved observes the skill on the unit and records the sign-off. Dashboards show sign-offs by team, role and location. The nurse unit manager sees who is signed off for what before the roster goes out.

Since 1 July 2023, accrediting agencies have assessed hospitals at short notice, generally 24 hours. An assessor can ask about any clinician, including the agency nurse who worked last weekend.

In Ausmed, casual and agency staff get their own onboarding plan. They join through single sign-on or an invitation, and Ausmed assigns their policy acknowledgements that day. The agency nurse is on the record with everyone else.

One record answers the executive, the unit manager and the assessor.

Compliance reporting is the biggest problem hospitals bring to Ausmed. Every question about the workforce ends up as a report, and in most hospitals someone builds each one by hand from an LMS export, a competency tracker and a spreadsheet.

In Ausmed, the executive's figure, the unit manager's overdue list and the assessor's Audit Report all run from the same record. Each one runs by team, role, location and NSQHS Standard.

Take the education team’s workload off their hands.

Run education programs

Education teams tell us that graduate, transition and specialty programs are a nightmare to run. Ausmed assigns each stage to the intake as a training plan, and assessors sign off in the assessor app. Ausmed Perform™ schedules probation reviews, and the educator sees where each learner is up to.

Do more with less

Hospitals have more staff to keep compliant, with the same education team and paid hours. Ausmed enrols staff from your HR data, brings annual training back on schedule and escalates reminders to managers. Experienced clinicians can take a Knowledge Verification pre-test in place of the module.

Put the right person in the right place

As experienced staff leave, the nurse in charge needs to know who is signed off for what. An approved assessor observes and records competency on the same staff record as training. A Not Yet Competent result goes on the dashboard with an action log, before an incident review finds the gap.

Course Builder in Ausmed Learn

Keep your own content, and use our Library for the gaps.

Hospitals have years of education built in-house: procedures, competency tools, unit workbooks, study days. Ausmed runs it as it is.

Your documents, videos and SCORM packages go through the same training plans, reports and sign-off as Ausmed content. Course Builder turns a unit workbook into a structured course.

Where you have a gap, or a module somebody rewrites every year, the Ausmed Library™ covers it. Library holds more than 1,000 Hospital and Acute Care resources, governed by T.R.U.S.T.E.D., with review dates and captions in eight languages.

If you already run an LMS, we can deliver the Ausmed Library into it as SCORM.

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to replace our LMS?

No. We can deliver the Ausmed Library™ as SCORM into the LMS you already run. If you move to Ausmed Learn™, your own content comes with you, and you assign it through the same training plans as Library content.

How does Ausmed work across several hospitals or sites?

You set training requirements once, by role, team and location, and they apply to everyone they cover across the organisation. Filter reports by site, role or team, and compare sites side by side.

What does implementation involve?

Ausmed works with your team through set-up and go-live, and supports you after launch. We agree the depth of onboarding and support with you, and you have a named contact who knows your account.

How does Ausmed keep our data secure?

Ausmed's information security management system is certified to ISO 27001, and staff sign in through your identity provider with single sign-on. Your IT team can ask for security documentation during evaluation.

How does Ausmed pricing work?

We scope pricing to the size of your workforce and the products you use. We'll quote once we know your sites and what you need.
