What is this article about?

Traditionally, someone else has employed nurses and midwives. Therefore, the change to delivering nursing/midwifery care unencumbered by traditional bureaucracy must be balanced against the difficulties inherent in establishing an independent practice. Success in your own business depends on the possession of specific resources, such as organisational skills, adequate finances, physical stamina, emotional resilience and the desire to be your own boss. These skills will be critical as the nurse/midwife clinician or nurse/midwife consultant develops a business plan and makes crucial decisions, such as how to gain access to clients.

Excellent resource that uses language a novice can understand. It provides an overview of risks and opportunities to consider if contemplating becoming an independent nurse contractor. A fantastic and quick read that is a must for any nurse/midwife considering venturing into private practice.

The resourdce provided a good bsic outline of the requirements. Pointed me to key points I must explore further before starting the venture. Also reassumed me that nurses are alloed to do this provided they stayy within their scope of practice and have the three insurances in place.

This is a great resource for nurses looking at undertaking post-graduate study and researching career pathways available to them.
