What Is a CPD Portfolio?
A Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio is a structured record that helps healthcare practitioners document and manage your CPD activities. It shows your commitment to maintaining and enhancing your professional practice and requirements outlined by the National Boards.
According to Ahpra, a comprehensive CPD portfolio should include:
- Learning Plan: Your identified learning goals and how you plan to achieve them.
- CPD Activities: Basic details of each activity you complete including:
- Title
- Type/format
- Provider
- Duration (CPD hours/mins)
- Date completed (and start date if it was over a period of time).
- Reflections: Insights into what you gained from each activity and how it will impact your practice.
- Evidence of Completion: Documentation supporting may be attached to demonstrate your participation in each activity.
A Note on Certificates
It's important to note that while certificates can demonstrate participation, they alone are insufficient.
You must provide reflections on why you undertook the activity, what you learnt, and how the activity will contribute to your professional practice.
Why Do You Need a CPD Portfolio?
Maintaining a CPD portfolio is crucial for 3 key reasons:
- Audit Preparedness: If selected for an audit, your portfolio provides the necessary evidence to demonstrate compliance.
- Professional Accountability: It showcases your commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
- Personal Growth: Reflecting on your learning experiences can improve practice and patient outcomes.
Ahpra recommends keeping a copy of your CPD portfolio and evidence for five years, in case you are audited.
Portfolios may be reviewed during audits or by your workplace to ensure compliance with CPD requirements.
