Trauma doesn’t always stay in the past. For many older people, the effects of earlier experiences, such as war, loss, abuse, discrimination or institutionalisation, can re-emerge later in life, affecting how they feel and receive care.

In this Training Module, you’ll explore what it means to provide trauma-aware, culturally safe and healing-informed care. This includes understanding the impact of trauma on wellbeing, recognising the critical role of cultural safety and person-centred care in trauma-informed practice, identifying signs of distress, and applying practical strategies that foster safety, trust and empowerment in everyday aged care settings.
